The Level I Trauma Patient Resuscitation

Overview

Vanderbilt recieves >2200 Level I trauma patients per year; that means six patients per 24 hour period. Since the inception of Vanderbilt's trauma program in 1989 thousands of hours of work has gone into systematizing the resuscitation process.

To maximize patient intake into the trauma bay a video has been produced for ground EMS and air medical crews.  Click here

Please remember the following:
  • Drop the rails on your stretcher or cot prior to backing in the room, lower IV poles and remove as many straps and monitoring equipment prior to entering the room.  Both of these actions facilitate moving the patient onto the ED stretcher.
  • Please wait in the bay and give report when prompted by the trauma team leader. When doing so keep the report brief and to the point.  Speak up so the entire room can hear you.
  • Please remove your stretcher and equipment from the bay as soon as possible. Turn any portable radios, pagers and phones off or down prior to entering the bay.   Wash your hands in one of the outside sinks near the nursing station.
